Our work

May Ifá reach you in its fullness

Our academy has one purpose: to bring together the best available knowledge of Ifá and share it with you. We want you to be well prepared, understand what you study, and trust that what you are learning is true.

Okanbi works alongside the babaláwos of our lineage, who record, transcribe, and translate the material. Every step of that work stays within our house.

To help you learn, we needed a tool that did not yet exist. So we built an app where you can listen to each verse, repeat it, and learn it by heart.

Recording

The Ọlúwo’s voice, verse by verse and session by session. Recorded whole: nothing summarized, nothing rewritten.

Transcribing

Every line is written out and hand-marked where it starts and ends inside the audio, so the text follows the voice when you practice.

Translating

Everything is prepared twice, in Spanish and in English, so that no one has to study the tradition in a borrowed language.

Ancient Wisdom ∞ Modern Learning

None of this is learned by reading. It passes from voice to voice, and in a very particular way: the Ọlúwo sits the ọmọ awo down in front of him, recites the verse and stops so it can be repeated. Then again, to the end. That is the method, and it is the one the academy carries into the app unchanged.

And it isn’t only the old method: it is the best there is. What the verse means lives in the voice — the tone, the length of each syllable, where the reciter breathes — and none of that is written down. You learn it by hearing and repeating, or you don’t learn it.

The practice room

The Ọlúwo recites. You repeat.

We don’t know of another app that teaches Ifá this way.

That’s how every lesson sounds. Each odù has 2, with the Ọlúwo’s audio, the Yorùbá text and its translation.

Practice lives in the app

The lessons, the practice room and memorization are all in the app. Download it free and sign in with the same account.

Anyone can begin to study: the verse, its story and its message are open to whoever approaches with respect. The ritual and the work of Ifá are another matter: to perform them you must be initiated into Ifá and qualified to carry them out.

This is what’s taught and how it’s prepared. Whenever you want to start, the odù are here.
